It is the 21st anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, which entered the history of the struggle for the freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as a heroic page. January 20 is the day of sadness and honor of the Azerbaijani people.

21 years ago, on the night of January 19-20, we went out to the streets and squares of Baku, outraged by the aggressive actions of Armenia, which made territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and the patronage of the former USSR leadership to Armenians. The Soviet army brutally attacked and opened fire against the large masses of people who protested against this. As a result of the aggression of the Soviet troops, 134 civilians were killed and more than 600 people were injured in Baku. Among those killed are representatives of five nationalities, more than 20 women and children. 69 volumes of 100 volumes of investigative material were taken from Baku to Moscow, to the former USSR Prosecutor's Office and were never returned. This aggression suffered by the people of Azerbaijan has not yet received the international recognition it deserves as a crime against humanity, and the perpetrators have not been punished.

January 20, the leadership of the criminal empire led by Mikhail Gorbachev entered AzerbaijanIt has also demonstrated the struggle, inflexibility, and pride of our nation, which does not tolerate its treacherous policy towards the mother, and strives for its freedom and independence. The brave children of the Motherland died and rose to the height of martyrdom. The true face of the empire was revealed that day. Our people have started to fight for independence with more determination. Today in independent Azerbaijan is always celebrated at a high level, the spirit of the martyrs is commemorated.
